Experience your Temagami Dogsledding Adventure this winter in northern Ontario by exploring the vast and magnificent Temagami Wilderness trails by dogsled. With your heart pounding, the sled begins to buck as howling dogs leap against their harnesses eager to go. As you jerk loose the anchor, the dogs explode into freedom and the sled rockets down the trail. Suddenly there is silence except for the sound of the sled gliding through fresh snow, each dog eagerly pulling you past snow laden boughs of mammoth pines and across frozen lakes into the captivating beauty and splendor of the Temagami Wilderness.

Temagami Dogsledding there is nothing like it in the world!

Upon your arrival, your dogsledding guide and hosts spend the evening with you teaching you the skills necessary to enjoy your dogsledding wilderness experience. You will learn the history of dogsledding, harnessing and hitching your dogteam, and winter camping skills.

In the morning you will load your sled, hitch and harness your own team and start your wilderness journey. We travel at a comfortable pace to allow for photography and wildlife viewing.

Your expedition will take your 30 kilometres to heated outpost prospector tents that provide warmth and a relaxing atmosphere after a day on the trail. The group participates in preparation of meals, gathering wood, and feeding and settling the dogs down for the night. After a hearty and nutritious meal, sitting by the wood stove you share your dogsledding experiences of the day and plan for tomorrow. The end of the day is signalled by a chorus of dogs howling at the northern lights.

Temagami Dogsledding Adventure sleds are pulled by purebred Siberian Huskies and the rare Canadian Eskimo dog. Native to Canada this special breed has remarkable strength and endurance that enabled native Canadians to survive, and helped early explorers discover northern Canada. Saved from extinction only a few decades ago, the dogs are once again doing what they do best - running the winter trails (ask your guide for the story of their remarkable survival).

All dogs have been bred for their temperament and ability to work as a well managed dogsledding team. Our dogsledding guides have extensive arctic and northern bush experience. They will provide you with dogsledding and wilderness camping skills. They are also trained in wilderness first aid and emergency management.

Programs

One Day Dogsledding Excursion
Overnight accommodation and one day of dogsledding.

Weekend Dogsledding Excursion
Begins Friday evening with over-night stay in lodge, two days spent dogsledding with all meals including trail lunches.

Extended Wilderness Expeditions
These trips are custom designed to a group's specific desires. Duration is optional from four to seven day trips.

School Groups
We also provide special packages for school groups. Please inquire.

Location
Temagami Dogsledding Adventure is located 60 kilometres north of North Bay, Ontario on Trans Canada Highway 11 North. Travel from Toronto can be provided by Air Canada and Ontario Northland Railway to Temagami.

Arranged through Temagami Dogsledding Adventure in conjunction with local Lodges.
